Pilgrimage to Sta. Lucia!
Sister Parish Pilgrimage
It has been announced, tweeted and posted on Facebook--so it must be real. That "it" is the opportunity to go on a group pilgrimage/tour with Fr. Tim to the beautiful country of Nicaragua. We will visit our sister parish, Sta. Lucia and tour the area, staying in the main city of her "department", Boaco. We will also visit historic Granada, the oldest Spanish city in the Americas (so I'm told). On to Masaya, a wonder city with a huge open-air market and an active volcano nearby. We'll have a couple days on Ometepe, a beautiful double-volcano island (one active, one dormant) in the huge Lake of Nicaragua. We'll return to Boaco to visit the volcanic hot spring resort Teustepe and to have a farewell with our sister parish. We will, of course, visit historic Catholic Churches at each site; Fr. Tim is working on the possibility of celebrating Mass at these churches.

Letter from Fr. Sergio:
Fr. Sergio Alvarez, Pastor of Santa Lucia, Nicaragua sent a letter to account for the purchase of musical instruments and to follow up after Fr. Tim's recent visit and Spanish studies:
Dear Priests, Fr. Tim and Fr. David, brothers and sisters who collaborate closely with your pastor and parochial vicar, Hispanic and non-Hispanic parochial community, I give thanks to God for this sisterhood project between our parishes St. Mary’s-Sta. Lucia. Sharing with you a different reality from ours when I was celebrating the mystery of faith with you, sharing with Fathers Tim, David and Jim. Welcoming Father Tim to our parish, the contact he’s had with our community despite the language, and yes he is speaking quite some Spanish. All this encourage us to continue our pastoral work, which unites us to a single cause, announcing and testifying God’s kingdom from his mercy.
Greatly thanking the priests and all the parish community who have given their share to start our musical project with the youth and teenagers of Sta. Lucia Parish. It has been a great blessing of God for our youngsters; you can see it on their face and they have expressed themselves likewise as they have acquired with your help the following:
3 trumpets $450 Córdoba: C$12,915.00
A pair of dishes $110 Córdoba: C$3,157.00
A trombone $240 Córdoba: C$6,888.00
A clarinet $220 Córdoba: C$6,314.00
A bass drum $98 Córdoba: C$2,800.00
For a total of $1,118.00 for a total of C$32,074.00 córdobas.
We have a balance of $2,332 waiting because there are no tubas in the stores and they are giving us some time to do fundraisers, like selling sodas, food, and enchiladas, as it adds up to $3100.00, as valued for this year 2016. We are working to achieve this dream that with your help we have started. We have started doing activities because the professor will start classes on the 8th of February and we have to pay him US$250/month.
I don’t want to say goodbye before thanking, once again, your valued cooperation to our project and to not forget to pray for us as we do pray for you, and so that brothers and sisters from St. Mary’s Parish may have the opportunity to visit Nicaragua (St. Lucia) and continue to strengthen our sisterhood. Just want to share the opening of this school year of our Santo Domingo Savio School. Pictures attached.
